I love the Word of God. Seriously! I mean it is deep, it is rich and abundant with Power and Life. The word of God is so powerful because it is literally God-Breathed. Just let that sink in. While your pondering, I would like to ask have you spent any time diving into his word lately?
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 KJV
I asked that because even as a believer, I feel that it is the Saints that are guilty of becoming further and further away from teaching what it means to be true Christians- true followers of Christ because it is us who actually know better. We are preaching happy and not healthy for the soul, even to the extent to where the soothing message does not even align with God’s Word.
And I believe that part of the reason the sheep are moving in this wrong direction, is that our leadership is not not studying to show themselves approved so often times the word is taught out of context. Many of our leaders do not teach and I mean REALLY TEACH the Word of God. We should be thirsting for more and have our scriptures memorized. It should be nothing for any inquirers to walk up to any follower of Christ and ask them what they believe, and they should be able to tell you and all of the answers should be the same as a collective.
You know it’s strange. Some people who claim to be Christians cannot tell you if they know where they are going after this life. They are simply unsure and some struggle to profess what they believe and most likely this is because they did not choose God for themselves their parents did. Others have fallacies mixed in with what they understand to be Christianity and somewhere it is skewed in with New Age Religion of False Light.
This is not at all a message to condemn those who are not well versed in the scriptures, or shame those who may be confused. But rather, this is a notice… a call- to get grounded and become edified. So let’s go back to the basics y’all, the primary fundamentals. Let’s dive in together shall we?
Have you heard of the Romans Road? Maybe you have, and if so give yourself a virtual high-five. If you haven’t, well give yourself a virtual high-five as well, because you will leave here with knowledge.
There are many scriptures in the Bible that explain Salvation and what one must do to be saved. The “Romans Road” is popular because in one book of the Bible (Romans) there are several scriptures that explain what it means to be saved by the Blood of Jesus. These scriptures are a great resource if you want to understand for yourself what it means to be saved. They are also great as a witnessing tool, if you would like to “fish” a few men and explain what Salvation means to someone else.
The Romans Road:
1) Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse…
This verse can be a bit difficult to understand in the King James Version so I will break it down. There is a God- the one true living God. He made everything. We can look around at all creation and see everything that He made. And in observing His creation, we cannot deny that He exists and that He made everything. Now, there are people who will reject this truth- but well, that is a whole other conversation topic and for the purpose of this message, I will stay on the Roman Road for now. ☺
2) Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned…
Let’s start with the beginning. Sin entered the world through Adam (and Eve) and as a result, mankind was separated from God. God is Holy and can have no part with sin. We are mere wretched mortals and there is nothing that we can do to make us right with God.
3) Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one…
We are ALL sinful. None of us is righteous and we needed a Savior. So, without our Savior (Jesus Christ of Nazareth) we are lost and destined for eternal damnation. Right here is where humility comes in. To come to Christ, one must first let go of their pride and admit that they are a sinner.
4) Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…
You are not alone. We are all in the same boat and need encouragement. We all have sinned, and we fall short of God’s glory. Let’s be honest- if Adam and Eve didn’t eat the forbidden fruit, one of us would have. How many times have we done something wrong when we knew better? Yep, again we have all sinned.
5) Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So, because of our sin, we all deserve to die…without question. Sin separates us from God. Where God is, there is eternal peace, love, and joy. Apart from God there is eternal death and torment. The payment for our sin is death. Unfortunately most people don’t want to hear this. They want to believe that they deserve eternal peace, love, and joy along with their sin. This is a hard pill to swallow for many and the sad thing is that they turn away from the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ before they hear the rest of the message. You see there is Good News coming- and those that turn away at this point, turn away from Redemption. Don’t be the one who turns away without hearing the Good News and miss the most important message of eternity.
6) Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
I love how this verse starts with, “But.” God is letting us know “yes its this BUT there is more to the story…there’s a turn up ahead with something you will want to consider. Yes, you are a sinner, BUT there’s a message of redemption. He loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ (Yashaya Hamashaiahchah) to pay the price for our sin. This is the Good News… see, I told you to stick around.
7) Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If you acknowledge that you are a sinner and proclaim with your mouth that you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for our sins and arose from the dead, you will be saved. Imagine you are testifying in a court case. The jury, judge, and everyone else will want to know what you have to say. This is the power of the testimony. The words that come out of your mouth count as a witness to what you believe. This is why the confession from your lips is so powerful. You are proclaiming, “This is what I believe!” And the other part of the equation is the belief that is actually in your heart. Remember how I said we were a mess earlier? It’s what’s in your heart that counts toward you being made right with God. Confession + Belief = Salvation.
8) Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Again, the formula is simple. He hears the call of your heart. If you look to Him and acknowledge Him with your heart, you will be saved from death and restored to Him again.
9) Romans 5:1-2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Yes, that’s right. Our faith in Christ’s redeeming power give us access back to God…back to His peace. And for that we can rejoice! All is not lost…we win!
10) Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Let’s get one thing straight. If you are in Christ, you now belong to Him and NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING can separate you from Him. Now, many people will point out those who have claimed to know Christ and have left the faith. That occurrence is a completely different matter and hopefully one that we shall discuss someday. However, today let’s focus on this truth- if you are His, you are His. Point-blank-period. The key to your salvation is your repentance. Repentance is turning from sin. It is about your true sincere desire to be all He has called you to be. You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to want to strive for better unto Gods perfect you, as you are fearfully and wonderfully made. And don’t worry if you are confused or feel weak as you start your journey; light casts out darkness. He will definitely draw you in to Him.
11) Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
This is assurance… and comfort. In Christ, there is no condemnation. Now that you are saved, walk in Him…. live your life in His truth. Study and grow in Him. You have been made free from sin and death. Isn’t it nice to know that you know God, who loves you so much that He would die for you? Just so you, yes YOU, can live!
So why go over all of this? Why was this message necessary? There are many people who believe that Christianity is about people trying to tell others what they can’t or shouldn’t do. While Christianity is not a message of condemnation; it is a message of Edification, Salvation, Love and Redemption. People need to hear WHAT we believe. They need to know WHY we believe what we believe. We have to create an opportunity to correct ourselves. It is an opportunity to be made right and be made whole. There are many claiming to be Christians, but they are misrepresenting Christ in both Spirit and in Truth. This is nothing new. Satan wishes to twist or pervert God’s message of Redemption, Truth, and Life, and make it seem like it is used for evil. But nothing could be further from the truth. There is so much more to being a follower of our Hamashaiahchah (Messiah). The Romans Road is an excellent starting point, but it doesn’t end there. Challenge yourself to dive deeper into the Most High God’s word, understand Who He is and Why He loves us so much, and share this message with someone else. We all need to know that there is a way to get back to God.
